Reconstructive Surgery from Dr. Buonassisi
Facial reconstruction involves much more than cosmetic improvement. It is first and foremost about improving functionality of an area impaired by a birth defect or deformity from an accident, infection, or disease. At the same time, cosmetic sensitivities play an important role in reconstructive surgery, and highly-trained surgeons like Dr. Buonassisi are able to enhance functionality while creating an aesthetically pleasing result.
Dr. Buonassisi is one of the few surgeons in the Vancouver area to be board certified by the American Board of Facial and Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons and is also Board Certified by the American Board of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery. He received his M.D. degree from The University of British Columbia after completing his undergraduate studies at McGill University in Montreal, Canada.
In addition to running his busy facial cosmetic surgery practice in Vancouver, Dr. Buonassisi serves as a clinical instructor at the University of British Columbia and staff surgeon at Lions Gate Hospital. Dr. Buonassisi is passionate about providing outstanding care and working with patients to identify a treatment plan that is appropriate and effective. Through computer imaging, he is able to help patients evaluate different surgical options before they commit to surgery.

Recovering from Surgery
Recovery following a reconstructive procedure will vary from patient to patient depending on the type of procedure performed, the area treated, and the extent of surgery. Swelling and bruising are common following surgery and these after effects typically begin to heal within 1 to 2 weeks. Patients generally return 5 to 7 days after their procedure to have their sutures removed. Any scars that result from the procedure should become less noticeable over time.
Your Results
The success of any reconstructive facial surgery can be measured both by cosmetic and functional results. Outcomes depend on a variety of factors such as existing skin and scar texture, laxity of surrounding skin, and amount of reconstruction needed. Dr. Buonassisi is committed to finding a way to help you enjoy increased comfort and a better look. He will give you a realistic idea of the results you can achieve after he evaluates your case during the consultation.
