He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons and is also Board Certified by the American Board of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery. He received his M.D. degree from The University of British Columbia after completing his undergraduate studies at McGill University in Montreal, Canada.
In addition to running his busy facial cosmetic surgery practice in Vancouver, Dr. Buonassisi serves as a clinical instructor at the University of British Columbia and staff surgeon at Lions Gate Hospital. Face lift procedures have come a long way since the days of the "pulled too tight" look. Dr. Buonassisi is a Board-Certified Facial Plastic Surgeon and is trained in the most modern face lifts. He uses special techniques to reposition aging muscles, fat and tissue to restore facial volume and create a more contoured appearance.
Is Face Lift Right for You?
Men and women from their 30s to 70s may be good candidates for face or neck lift surgery. These increasingly popular facial rejuvenation procedures are ideal for people who have noticed sagging and wrinkled skin on the lower portion of their face, but who still have healthy skin elasticity and a well-defined bone structure.
For those patients who aren't quite sure whether a Vancouver, British Columbia face lift will achieve their cosmetic goals, Dr. Buonassisi offers computer imaging to help envision results. Preparing for Your Procedure
Most face lift patients find that they need to schedule about 2 to 3 weeks off from work and other professional and personal commitments to recover properly. For this reason, it is good to plan surgery for a time that fits your busy schedule so you do not rush the recovery process. Also, stock up on essential items in your home so that you do not have to go shopping for at least the first few days after your procedure. These key items may include over the counter pain medication, favourite foods, and toiletry items.
Arrange for a friend, family member, or loved one to drive you to and from your surgical appointment and stay with you for at least the first night as you begin to recover and the anaesthesia fully wears off.
Vancouver Face Lift
Dr. Buonassisi does not take a "one size fits all" approach to face lift surgery. Instead, he customizes the procedure to address the individual concerns you shared during the consultation. In a very broad sense, face lift surgery is meant to elevate the soft tissue layers on the lower portions of the face.
While there are a variety of face lift techniques, all involve incisions being made in the skin folds around the ear or inside the hairline. Through these incisions, Dr. Buonassisi is able to separate the skin and access underlying muscle. He surgically tightens and lifts these deeper tissue layers and removes excess skin before suturing the incisions closed and applying bandages. In most cases, incisions are small enough and located in well-concealed areas to make scarring a minor issue. People should notice your youthful facial contour, not your scars.
In most cases Dr. Buonassisi performs face lift and neck lift with the patient under twilight anaesthesia so that they can sleep comfortably through the procedure, which usually takes 1 to 2 hours. You will spend another few hours in recovery before Dr. Buonassisi gives you clearance to head home. Face lift surgery provides long-term cosmetic benefits. The facial aging process will still continue, so in this sense results are not "permanent," but patients can expect to enjoy their enhanced image for years to come.
This procedure is often performed along with other Vancouver cosmetic surgery options, including blepharoplasty, facial liposuction, and brow lift.
Recovering from Surgery
Patients are able to return home the day of their surgical procedure to begin the recovery process. Most patients experience little discomfort after face and neck lift surgery - over the counter pain medication may be all you need. You will have a follow-up visit at our office soon after your surgery to remove bandages and check on your progress. At a subsequent visit about a week later, Dr. Buonassisi will remove sutures, and at that point you should be cleared to return to work and social activities. More strenuous activities and exercise will need to be postponed for several weeks until incisions have had a chance to heal fully.
